APPLICATIONS BEING ACCEPTED FOR FALL SESSION OF RALEIGH NEIGHBORHOOD COLLEGE

The Raleigh Neighborhood College, a program offered by the City of Raleigh in partnership with Wake County, is taking applications for its fall session.

The Raleigh Neighborhood College provides citizens with an opportunity to learn about City and County governments and the services provided by both. Students will explore new and enhanced ways of increasing citizen participation. They also will meet and interact with City and County staff members and other Raleigh residents. Students will be provided with the tools to become involved with neighborhood improvement and community organization.

The fall session will last 13 weeks, from Sept. 11 to Dec. 11. Classes will meet on Thursdays from 6 p.m. to 9 p.m. Classes generally will meet at Peace College but some sessions will take place at City of Raleigh facilities. Dinner will be provided to students at no cost. Only 25 students will be accepted for the fall session.

CITIZENS’ PARTICIPATION LEADERSHIP INSTITUTE ACCEPTING APPLICATIONS FOR FALL SESSION

The Citizens’ Participation Leadership Institute (CPLI), a free program offered by the City of Raleigh Community Services Department in partnership with Shaw University, is now accepting applications for its fall session.

CPLI is a civic education initiative designed to strengthen individual and collective citizen leadership capacities, and develop skills important to creating more productive and effective interaction with agencies of City government. In order to qualify for the program, applicants must be residents of the city of Raleigh and demonstrate some level of commitment toward neighborhood or community involvement, such as participation in area Citizens Advisory Councils, homeowners associations or neighborhood associations.

The fall session begins Sept. 18 and consists of nine classes held on Thursdays from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. at Shaw University. Dinner will be provided at no cost. An awards banquet will be held at the end of the fall session.
