The call was received at 911 at 7:40 AM on August 21, 2008. Another vehicle accident at the intersection on Trailwood Drive and Lineberry Drive. By 8:00 AM, traffic was backed up to well past the second entrance of University Apartments. Several motorist were making U-turns to avoid the intersection. I do not know how many cars were involved or if there were any injuries at this time. If you know anything, please post in the comments.
Additionally, this just fuels the need for a signalized intersection, particularly at peak times. At first, Raleigh Public Works and NCDOT were recommending a flashing signal. But then a new accident report was completed and an NCDOT Regional Traffic Engineer told me, “The traffic signal is recommended based on the increase in the angle type crashes reported at the intersection.”
So when can we expect a traffic signal at Trailwood Drive and Lineberry Drive? My guess would be before the end of the year. And it’s not just a signal, we should see pedestrian improvements as well. In an email correspondence from April 2008 with NCDOT, the following information was shared:
We were recently informed that this intersection is going before the July Board of Transportation for funding in July. Design work will start before the improvements are funded. We are recommending the installation of a three-phase traffic signal, which will include a protected-permitted left turn for southbound Trailwood Rd. We are also recommending pedestrian signal heads and crosswalks at the intersection.

When I drove by around 8:10am, there was an officer there and he was writing something (I can only guess that it was an accident report and/or a ticket). There were also at least 2 pretty smashed up cars. The people standing with the police office appeared to be young – possibly college students.
When I was at the stop sign at Lineberry Drive trying to make a right turn, a little red car came speeding out of the apartment complex and cut across traffic in an attempt to cut me off almost causing another accident at this intersection.
Is this how every morning is going to be now since school is back in session?!?
Interesting that they wait for people tp be in accident rather then use common sense. I guess the money that goes back from each accident helps in funding the traffic signal! I am so scared to turn left or right from Deep forest onto Lineberry. I know we had few accidents there too.
