A community watch group was formed at the Trailwood Hills HOA meeting on Thursday, February 26, 2009. Officer Barbie Upchurch presented at the meeting and stated that while a neighborhood our size should typically have 40 to 50 members, we would be able to go forward with fewer (we currently have 13 members). Officer Upchurch reported that our neighborhood has had a small number of 911 calls over the past six months in comparison to other neighborhoods our size, and the report of calls will be available on our website shortly.
Currently, the group will meet once a year at the annual meeting. The Captain will be in contact with Officer Upchurch and receive monthly reports about crime in our neighborhood, which will be posted to the website. The Captain will also keep the neighborhood informed via the listserve and the website as to any unusual activities or items of importance.
Officer Upchurch did not bring the packets the City usually provides communities forming a community watch, so those materials will be available for pick up at the annual meeting on Tuesday, April 7, 2009.
During and following the meeting, several other items were discussed by the homeowners present at this meeting. Please see below and be advised that these items will be added to the agenda for the annual meeting.
- It was discussed that Alder Ridge and Trailwood Hills Drive need to be restricted to one-sided parking also – that would make our entire neighborhood parking on one side.
- It was also mentioned that Laurel Falls should become “no parking” at all.
- Several homeowners at the meeting expressed the need to beautify the neighborhood with respect to yards, house painting, house pressure washing, and seeding. They also expressed the desire to revamp the front entrance sign and landscaping, as well as the Lineberry entrance sign and landscaping, and adding a sign at the entrance coming from Camden Crossings.
- There was discussion that if dues needed to be raised to address these problems, then we need to raise dues.

Most of you may already know about this but here is the brief article from WRAL’s web site:
Two shooting victims taken to hospital
Posted: Today at 12:25 p.m.
Raleigh, N.C. — Raleigh police responded to a report of a shooting Thursday morning at 1911-106 Orchard Hollow Way. They found a man and a woman with gunshot wounds, spokesman Jim Sughrue said.
Both victims were taken to an area hospital. No further information about the incident was available.
I grew up around here and Lineberry road is named after my family. My great-great grandfather, James Alpheus Lineberry built the house at the corner of Lake Wheeler and Lineberry road in the mid-20’s and that is how the road got it’s name. This area has always been relatively safe and was not like this before. The Orchard Point neighborhood has been allowed to become a unsafe, undesirable group to live near. I have reported shots being fired about 12 different times by calling 911 and also there was someone caught selling a large bag of pot beside my house. I was told by one of the officers who called me back to get more information after making a complaint about gun shots late one night, that they are aware of the problem in Orchard Point and they get complaints on a regular basis. There has not been anything done and now today there was more violence. I have had enough and am ready to see the city take more aggressive action to try to address this issue. We can either complain about this situation among ourselves or we can do something about it. I will be contacting city officials and I would encourage you all to do the same. We have to let them know that this type of behavior will not be tolerated here any longer and we want something done about it. If they hear enough voices, things will change.
