PRR-Watch Keeps Guard Up

May 20th, 2009 by Jason Hibbets

Raleigh, NC – The Pleasant Ridge & Ramsgate Community Watch, building a safe and informed family community, held it’s Spring quarterly meeting on May 18, 2009 and recently posted their meeting notes [PDF] to prr-watch.org. During the meeting, attendees discovered 9-1-1 calls were down since February 1, 2009 (112 calls), but were warned to keep their guard up. In area around the Pleasant Ridge & Ramsgate community, there were close to 800 calls made to 9-1-1.

The hot topics included a presentation from Walt Fuller, the Deputy Director of the 9-1-1 Communications Center, who provided information about how 9-1-1 works and details about the technology driven center that fielded close to 860,000 calls last year. The second speaker was Tyrone Lindsey, of the Raleigh Community Services Department, who informed the group about different programs and services from Community Services, including the Neighborhood Improvement Grant Program.

The group also discussed potential community projects that the organization could apply for, using the grant. Ideas included:

  • small signs listing the website address at street entrances, complementing existing community watch signs
  • dog stations (such as the ones installed at dog parks)
  • flowers / signs at subdivision entrances (Lawrence, Sierra, Henslowe, Rasmgate)
  • walking signs / mile markers on Sierra & Lawrence

The next event is a community wide yard sale schedule for June 13, 2009. The next meeting will coincide with National Night Out on August 4, 2009.
