Over the past month, District D Councilor, Thomas Crowder, has lead an effort to gather concerned citizens and foster participation in Raleigh’s 2030 Comprehensive Plan.  Three meetings were held on May 10, May 16, and May 24 where citizens gathered to review the Growth Framework map, Greenprint map, and Future Land Use Map.  The notes from those meetings are available for your perusal:

What are the next steps?

The District D 2030 team leaders are going to submit their revised comments against the plan and hope to produce a revised landuse map for the district.  We anticipate the planning commission to wrap up their review of the 2030 Draft Comprehensive Plan by the end of June 2009.

DDNA’s next meeting is on June 20, 2009 (the third Saturday of the month) at Whole Foods on Wade Avenue (in the community room).  2030 Team Leads plan to have their comments prepared by then to present at this meeting before submitting them to the city.

About: Jason:
I'm a neighborhood advocate. I started off by getting involved in the Pleasant Ridge & Ramsgate Community Watch program and helped grow that organization. I saw an opportunity to unite other neighborhoods in our area with the Lineberry Alliance. I became chair of Raleigh's South West Citizen Advisory Council (SWCAC) in April 2010 along with vice chair Anthony McLeod and second vice chair Mary Belle Pate. I work with other neighborhood leaders in District D alongside City Councilor Thomas Crowder, on the District D Neighborhood Alliance (DDNA). I've completed Raleigh Neighborhood College (Spring 2005) and Leadership North Carolina (May 2007). In 2009, I lead a group of neighborhood volunteers to review Raleigh's 2030 Comprehensive Plan. I have a genuine interest in strong communities, fostering diversity, understanding the issues, and being transparent in my work. You can follow me on Twitter: @jhibbets
