Residents from the Pleasant Ridge & Ramsgate Community Watch reported a homeless camp in the woods off Lake Wheeler Road to Raleigh Police Department (RPD) in early March 2010.  As you were coming from the Farmer’s Market, right after you cross the bridge over I-40 (West), the camp was on the right in the woods.

RPD contacted the subjects residing at the I-40 (West) exit ramp and Lake Wheeler Road and reported today that the subjects voluntarily vacated the area sometime prior to April 2nd.  RPD originally responded to the camp site on March 18, 2010 and identified two subjects living at the location.  RPD spoke with these citizens in regards to the applicable city and state laws and requested that they remain there until RPD could provide them with relocation resources.

RPD scheduled a meeting with a Wake County Health and Human Services counselor (this agency in charge of the local homeless shelters).  When RPD returned to the site on April 2nd, they discovered the encampment had been vacated along with the tents, tarps and other items.  When they cancelled the appointment with the Wake County Health and Human Services counselor, they learned that both subjects walked into one of the area homeless shelters and notified counselors that they had found an apartment.
