Lineberry Alliance Creating Board of Directors, Organizing

May 14th, 2010 by Jason Hibbets

It’s amazing what the Lineberry Alliance has become over the past few years. What once was a vision of joining neighborhood associations together, has grown into a very informed group of neighbors that care deeply about their community. It started with a simple idea, a website – lineberry.org, and an email list. The email list has grown from just a handful of folks to a list of almost 300 people. We added a FaceBook group and continue to collaborate on ideas to improve our neighborhoods and our quality of life.

Over the past few weeks, a core group of individuals has been meeting to discuss what’s next for the organization. I can’t announce the names quite yet, as we are still defining roles and who is committing to those roles. But it feels like it’s the right time to let our members know some of the things we are planning. I think it’s better for you to be involved early and not be surprised at some of the things that might be changing.

I can tell you that we have an awesome team of motivated neighborhood leaders willing to step up. The team represents many different neighborhoods and has the experience we need to formalize the organization. But you, our neighbors, are an important part of this as well. We’ll be asking for your feedback and your participation.

The mission will remain the same, to improve the quality of life for the Lineberry Alliance @ Historic Rhamkatte. We’re still working on the words, but that’s the high level view. We’re drafting by-laws and looking at becoming a 501 (c)(3). Why? Because we want to do big things for this area. We’re talking about things like attracting businesses that we need / want and increasing our property values. We want to partner with neighborhood organizations, businesses, and individuals to carry out our mission.

We want to unify our neighborhood with community events. Perhaps a home tour to promote real estate, a concert to just have a good time, movie night, or a charrette to help plan the park.

These are just some of the things we’re talking about, but your input is valuable as well. What are the things you’re interested in? What are some of your ideas of what’s next for this organization?

More information to follow as it becomes available. We think that all these changes will be a good thing, benefiting the community as well as the quality of life. We look forward to your feedback and participation.
