The Raleigh Citizens Adviosry Council (RCAC) hosts an annual Neighborhood Recognition Awards ceremony. This year, the awards ceremony will be held on Wednesday, October 20, 2010 at the McKimmon Center on Gorman Street. The evening will begin with a reception starting at 6 pm, followed by an awards ceremony at 7 pm. The reception includes live jazz music. Friends, family, and neighbors are encouraged to share in the occasion.
During the past meetings of the South West Citizens Advisory Council (SWCAC), we selected and voted on an individual within the Citizens Advisory Council (CAC) who has contributed significantly to the well-being our area. We selected Bill Dumont, a landlord making strides in the Caraleigh community.
Bill Dumont is not your ordinary landlord. He transferred his business skills to a second career as he purchased one house after another in the SWCAC area. Unlike other landlords in the Caraleigh community, he quickly established contact with the Caraleigh Community Watch chair, Mildred Flynn, and provided her with home, business, and cell phone contact information. He insisted that he be contacted if his tenants created any problems. Bill did the same in other parts of SWCAC and if problems occurred, he quickly resolved them.
When the PROP was proposed, Bill was in favor of passing the ordinance from the beginning. He recognized that the PROP was right for Raleigh and for a healthy rental industry. As his number of rental houses increased, Bill continued to improve the houses he rents and make sure his tenants would be good neighbors in their communities. We wish all landlords were as active, committed, and community-friendly as Bill Dumont. We thank him for having a vision for strong communities and making our part of Raleigh better, one home at a time.
Other CAC’s have selected individuals, organizations, or businesses in their respective areas that are making a positive impact. Perhaps you saw Robert and Julia Mackintosh recognized for “Rewarded for a love of gardens” in the News & Observer recently. This story is the first in a series of profiles of Raleigh Neighborhood Recognition Award winners from the N&O.
You are invited to attend on Wednesday, October 20, 2010 to recognize Bill Dumont and others like him from around the city of Raleigh.
