My husband’s grandma always said “Spring is sprung, the grass is ris, I wonder where the birdies is?” I’m just wondering where Spring is!! Regardless of the temperature outside, the calendar has told us Spring is here and the IRS is telling us taxes are due!
If you are like me, you are thinking about the spring cleaning you promise to do every year, and wondering where to put all that junk! You might also be scrambling to get your taxes done, and going through piles of paper that you kept around all year “just in case”. Many people make the mistake of just putting those unneeded papers in their garbage, not bothering to shred it, leaving themselves and their personal information available to some very crafty people.
- As many as 10 million Americans a year are victims of identity theft.
- 38-48% of victims find out about the identity theft within 3 months of it starting
- 9-18% of victims take 4 years or longer to discover that they are victims of identity theft
Don’t become a statistic, and don’t be a victim of identity theft. There are two events coming up shortly where you can take documents to be shredded and at one, all those boxes of “someone’s junk is another person’s treasurer”.
The first event is sponsored by NBC 17 and Shred It!
Saturday, April 9, from 10am – 2pm, and have your personal documents shredded for free! Goodwill Community Foundation trucks will also be onsite to collect your donations of clothing and household items (WooHoo added bonus!!)
