I previously posted about the Tryon Road, Part C project being included in the City of Raleigh’s 10-year Capital Improvement Plan (CIP). But there were lots of questions about what that really means. Is there really money set aside or is it just a placeholder? I did some research and got input from all the players involved in the final phase of the Tryon Road project in South West Raleigh: City of Raleigh, Capital Area Metropolitan Planning Organization (CAMPO), and North Carolina Department of Transportation’s (NCDOT).

I’m sure many people are interested in both the Lake Wheeler Road improvements and the Tryon Road, Part C project. The City of Raleigh recently announced the major road projects that are to be included in their 10-year Capital Improvement Plan (CIP). Both projects made the cut for phase one, which means that funds are being allocated for the projects.
What does that all mean? I’m not sure yet. But I’ve got some research to do, as I’m concerned about the coordination with Tryon Road Part C and the Tryon Road bridge. For now, check out the details for these two projects in our vicinity.

We get lots of requests for recommendations on the Lineberry Alliance mailing list. It’s no surprise that we have people, with businesses, that live in our own neighborhood providing some of the services many of us use -or- are looking for. One such service that’s available from one of our neighbors in Pleasant Ridge is a PC repair service. See the information below for more details about the services this local business provides.
Jerry Perkinson from Pleasant Ridge & Ramsgate Community Watch has a home-based PC service business based in the neighborhood. Services are offered on laptops, desktops, networks (both wired and wireless) as well as backup systems and peripherals. Jerry has been tinkering with PC’s since he was a child and has gained more experience working at IBM for the last 7 years, fixing software and hardware on laptops and PC’s. (more…)

After much discussion, pilot groups, testing, and patience, the new website for the City of Raleigh that I’ve heard so much about is finally becoming a reality in August. One of the highlights includes the Raleigh Beehive, a self-help web portal, that sounds like it will be interesting and useful to citizens. The one thing I’ll be on the lookout for is more support for the Citizen Advisory Councils (CACs). We are in desperate needs of better communication tools and online community building. See the press release on the new website below:
Raleigh Launches New Web Portal Aug. 1
On Aug. 1, the City of Raleigh’s web portal will change – completely! The site has been re-created to be of greater value to residents and to make it a more enjoyable and productive place to visit. It promises to make it much easier to keep up to the minute on City news and events; register for classes; file for a permit or do any business with your City. (more…)

The Green Chair Project
We did a post last week about sharing with your neighbors. This week, we’ve found a different way that combines sharing with recycling and adds a touch of green, that we thought you might be interested in.
It’s called the Green Chair Project. From the looks of it, the project provides a way to get rid of gently used household furnishings with people who need or can’t afford those items. It sounds like a great idea. The City of Raleigh offers an appliance recycling program, but if the items are still working, the Green Chair Project sounds like (more…)
