We previously posted an interview with Walt Fuller, Deputy Director of Operations for Raleigh-Wake County Emergency Communications Center about when people should dial 9-1-1 or the non emergency number concerning some of the quality of life issues that we want to improve in our neighborhood. We also wanted to get the perspective from someone in the field that has to determine if, in fact, there is a violation, and determine whether or not to issue a citation.
We interviewed Officer A.P. Draughon III from Raleigh Police Department (RPD). He is probably one of the most knowledgeable people on the City of Raleigh’s PROP ordinance (Probationary Rental Occupancy Permit) and has years of experience as the one of the CLAMP-DOWN officers, whose sole purpose was to issue Noise and Party Ordinance (NPO) citations in the South West district.
We posed some of the same questions to Officer Draughon that we asked Walt Fuller. See his responses below, from an RPD perspective, and look for a meeting announcement about PROP education later this month. (more…)

Don’t freak out if you see the leaf collection trucks out and about in the neighborhoods. There is some training going on that you should know about before you rush to rake your leaves that…maybe…haven’t fallen just quite yet.
CITY TO CONDUCT LEAF COLLECTION TRAINING OVER NEXT FEW WEEKS
Raleigh residents who see the City’s leaf collection trucks making their rounds should not panic and hurriedly begin raking their leaves to the curbs just yet. The City of Raleigh is introducing new equipment that will make its curbside leaf collection more cost effective, more convenient for residents and safer for operators.
Operators are currently working on training sessions with the new automated equipment at various locations throughout Raleigh. The exercises will be conducted over the next four to six weeks. The equipment is just being used for training so no actual collections will take place at this time. (more…)

I previously posted about the Tryon Road, Part C project being included in the City of Raleigh’s 10-year Capital Improvement Plan (CIP). But there were lots of questions about what that really means. Is there really money set aside or is it just a placeholder? I did some research and got input from all the players involved in the final phase of the Tryon Road project in South West Raleigh: City of Raleigh, Capital Area Metropolitan Planning Organization (CAMPO), and North Carolina Department of Transportation’s (NCDOT).

On our neighborhood email list, we’ve had lots of discussion about quality of life issues such as noise complaints, parties, fireworks, parking violations etc. Needless to say, people are confused on when to dial 9-1-1 versus the non-emergency number (919) 831-6311. The Pleasant Ridge & Ramsgate Community Watch program has helped educate neighbors about 9-1-1 and sponsored tours of the 9-1-1 center in the past.

I decided to ask Walt Fuller, Deputy Director of Operations for Raleigh-Wake County Emergency Communications Center to help clarify some of the confusion. Our Q&A is below:
1) What happens when a call comes in to the Raleigh-Wake County Emergency Communications Center for a Raleigh Police officer? (more…)

I’m sure many people are interested in both the Lake Wheeler Road improvements and the Tryon Road, Part C project. The City of Raleigh recently announced the major road projects that are to be included in their 10-year Capital Improvement Plan (CIP). Both projects made the cut for phase one, which means that funds are being allocated for the projects.
What does that all mean? I’m not sure yet. But I’ve got some research to do, as I’m concerned about the coordination with Tryon Road Part C and the Tryon Road bridge. For now, check out the details for these two projects in our vicinity.

It seems that the current hosting company has some technical limitations with our neighborhood-wide mailing list or list-serve. They impose a limit of 500 emails per hour, mostly to reduce SPAM efforts. I understand why they do this. But, as our mailing list grows in the number of subscribers and the volume of emails created, it’s causing some growing pains.
As I evaluate the available options to potentially migrate our email list, two options are at the top: Google Groups and Yahoo! Groups. Take the following poll to help us decide:
Which list-serve option would you prefer?
- Google Groups (72%, 21 Votes)
- Yahoo! Groups (28%, 8 Votes)
Total Voters: 29

Raleigh, NC – The Pleasant Ridge & Ramsgate Community Watch, building a safe and informed family community, is partnering with Raleigh Police Department (RPD) to bring you the following residential burglary prevention tips.
It’s unfortunate that we have to highlight crime in our neighborhood, but there have been several break-ins in the Lineberry area over the past few weeks. Trailwood Hills and Trailwood Springs have been hit pretty hard. Hot items include flat screen TV’s, jewelry, cash, laptops, and other items of convenience.
Be sure to review the following crime prevention tips to make your home safer. There are no guarantee’s, but you can make things more difficult for burglars. (more…)

I was reading an article on the Raleigh Public Record summarizing some of the efforts on Raleigh’s approach to improving bike amenities throughout the city, ‘Sharrows’ to make city more bike-friendly, when I thought about our part of town. I briefly mentioned my vision for sharrows on Lineberry Drive in this article, but didn’t really take the time to articulate where or why.
The Raleigh Public Record article called sharrows a “9-foot-long reminder to share the road.” And that is what my vision for Linberry Drive would accomplish.

We get lots of requests for recommendations on the Lineberry Alliance mailing list. It’s no surprise that we have people, with businesses, that live in our own neighborhood providing some of the services many of us use -or- are looking for. One such service that’s available from one of our neighbors in Pleasant Ridge is a PC repair service. See the information below for more details about the services this local business provides.
Jerry Perkinson from Pleasant Ridge & Ramsgate Community Watch has a home-based PC service business based in the neighborhood. Services are offered on laptops, desktops, networks (both wired and wireless) as well as backup systems and peripherals. Jerry has been tinkering with PC’s since he was a child and has gained more experience working at IBM for the last 7 years, fixing software and hardware on laptops and PC’s. (more…)
