Front Yard Parking Making Tracks in Comp Planning

Tuesday, September 14th, 2010

Text Change TC-7-09, Front Yard Parking (FYP) for single family detached dwellings is on the Comprehensive Planning Committee agenda this week. The meeting is on Wednesday, September 15, 2010 at 1:00 pm in Room 201, City Council Chambers, at 222 West Hargett Street.

The latest issue being looked at is how homes fronting on thoroughfare roads might be impacted. Planning Director Mitch Silver brought up this topic at last month’s meeting. This will probably be the bulk of the talk at this meeting. Past meetings that I’ve attended have seen support from citizens around the city, with only a few people speaking in opposition to the text change. My opinion is that most citizens would support this text change to improve quality of life issues in their neighborhoods. (more…)

Ample Storage Coming to Lake Wheeler Road?

Monday, September 13th, 2010

Ample StorageAt tonight’s South West Citizens Advisory Council (SWCAC) meeting, one of the main topics is the rezoning case Z-21-10 [PDF]. The rezoning is on the corner of Lake Wheeler Road and Kirkland Drive, and based on last month’s presentation, a vote in support could take place during the meeting. The petitioners want to put an Ample Storage facility on the site. This could be the type of development that kick starts the right kind of growth that the Lake Wheeler corridor has been missing for the last few years. There are no guarantees about what development will go on a rezoned property.

Would you vote in favor of rezoning Z-21-10?

  • no (50%, 2 Votes)
  • yes (50%, 2 Votes)

New American House project is an investment in green, sustainable community

Monday, March 29th, 2010

The New American House project is a great investment opportunity and could be a marquee sustainable community for South West Raleigh. It would be a new model for green home-building in the Triangle, the State of North Carolina, and perhaps the nation. But the project is in jeopardy of not coming to fruition if it doesn’t attract enough investors.

The plan for this community is solid. The opportunity to have 12 sustainable, green homes in this area designed by 12 different designers, all from North Carolina, is unlikely to come our way again. Since I first heard about this project in 2008, I thought it was an awesome concept and a great idea. We can help by spreading the word and gathering additional support in the form of investors for the project.

Real Estate market update November 2009

Wednesday, November 18th, 2009

Most people have already heard about two major political/economical announcements over the last month affecting real estate:

  1. the extension of first time home buyer tax credit and
  2. steady rise of unemployment numbers

How does it translate to our home values in the Triangle and around the Lineberry area?

Real Estate Matters in Historic Rhamkatte

Monday, June 22nd, 2009

On June 1, 2009, the Lineberry Alliance held a meeting to discuss real estate opportunities in our area. For reference, our area is South of I-40, West of Lake Wheeler Road, North of Tryon Road, and East of Trailwood Drive. Lineberry Drive connects almost all of our neighborhoods together. At the meeting were neighbors from Camden Crossings, Whitehurst Townhomes, Trailwood Springs, Trailwood Hills, and Pleasant Ridge & Ramsgate. We were lucky to have Realtor Louise Griffin a friend from the Wade CAC join us, along with South West CAC Chair Mary Belle Pate and District D City Councilor Thomas Crowder. The meeting notes and agenda are below: (more…)
