On our neighborhood email list, we’ve had lots of discussion about quality of life issues such as noise complaints, parties, fireworks, parking violations etc. Needless to say, people are confused on when to dial 9-1-1 versus the non-emergency number (919) 831-6311. The Pleasant Ridge & Ramsgate Community Watch program has helped educate neighbors about 9-1-1 and sponsored tours of the 9-1-1 center in the past.
I decided to ask Walt Fuller, Deputy Director of Operations for Raleigh-Wake County Emergency Communications Center to help clarify some of the confusion. Our Q&A is below:

Raleigh, NC – The Pleasant Ridge & Ramsgate Community Watch, building a safe and informed family community, participated in this year’s National Night Out, a unique crime/drug prevention event, on August 3, 2010.. NNO is designed to:
- Heighten crime and drug prevention awareness;
- Generate support for, and participation in, local anti-crime programs;
- Strengthen neighborhood spirit and police-community partnerships; and
- Send a message to criminals letting them know that neighborhoods are organized and fighting back.

Raleigh, NC – The Pleasant Ridge & Ramsgate Community Watch, building a safe and informed family community, is partnering with Raleigh Police Department (RPD) to bring you the following residential burglary prevention tips.
It’s unfortunate that we have to highlight crime in our neighborhood, but there have been several break-ins in the Lineberry area over the past few weeks. Trailwood Hills and Trailwood Springs have been hit pretty hard. Hot items include flat screen TV’s, jewelry, cash, laptops, and other items of convenience.
Be sure to review the following crime prevention tips to make your home safer. There are no guarantee’s, but you can make things more difficult for burglars. (more…)

On June 14, Major R.W. Grayson of the RPD announced the release of “The Raleigh Police Department’s Response to Gang Activity: 2009 Public Report,” which describes the RPD’s broad and proactive approach toward gang prevention, intervention, and suppression. Highlights of the report include:
- A general overview of gangs in Raleigh, including demographics and criminal activity
- A description of the RPD units involved in the department’s response to gang-related crime
- A listing of the RPD’s programs and partnerships related to gang prevention, intervention, and suppression
- A forecast of what can be expected in the arena of gang activity on the local and national level

There were about 20 folks who attended the monthly South West Citizens Advisory Council (SWCAC) meeting on June 14, 2010. We had a variety of topics and speakers attend the meeting to provide updates. Before we adjourned, we decided that we would trade our July meeting for a community meal. We will grill some hamburgers and hot dogs at the pavilion at Carolina Pines and ask that folks attending bring a side dish. More information to come in the July newsletter.
Officer Upchurch provided updates from the Raleigh Police Department (RPD). Top items included 63 animals calls and several residential break-ins. Officer Upchurch reminded us to lock the doors and windows to your home. (more…)

At first it was occasional. Then there were two trucks taking up the road. Now it’s becoming a regular truck stop in the middle of our neighborhood, right here at Truck Stop Lineberry.
Wal-mart trailer on Lineberry Drive
A few weeks ago, myself and a few other neighbors starting noticing 18-wheelers parking on Lineberry Drive, just south of Broad Oaks and North of Trailwood Hills, between Joanne Drive and Alder Ridge Lane. No biggie, right? Someone in the neighborhood is a truck driver. My wife’s uncle drives the big rigs. I can respect that. (more…)

At last night’s South West Citizens Advisory Council (SWCAC), we had a great collaborative session on several different topics including building a CAC website, budget requests, and community gardens. The Trailwood Hills annual homeowners meeting took place on Tuesday, April 6, 2010. We had Captain Perry, who is the Captain for our District, and Officer Draughon, who is Raleigh’s PROP Officer, attend. They spoke to various issues involving PROP and the new nuisance party ordinance. CITY OF RALEIGH TO OFFER LANDLORD TRAINING PROGRAM ON MAY 12
The City of Raleigh’s next landlord training class will be held on May 12 from 8:30 a.m. to 5:30 p.m. at the Raleigh Housing Authority’s multipurpose community room, 971 Harp St. The one-day course offers useful information to rental property owners and managers, real estate agents, lawyers and others who deal with or have an interest in rental issues.
The North Carolina State Bar and the N.C. Real Estate Commission offer continuing education credits for lawyers and real estate agents who take the class.
The landlord training course covers such topics as screening rental applicants, strengthening rental agreements and taking legal steps to resolve problems. (more…)
