Scaling Back in 2011

The following message was sent to the Lineberry Alliance list on 12.20.10. I must say thanks who have helped make the Lineberry Alliance what it is today and also to those that will take it to the next level.

Hi neighbors,

I wanted to send this note to you before the holidays got into full swing. In 2011, I plan on scaling back my participation in the Lineberry Alliance. I’m very proud of the work we’ve done so far. We’ve figured out that if our neighborhoods can work together and share successes & challenges, that we can make our part of the world a better place.

I have a project that looks really fun and is an opportunity for me help make the larger area we live in more recognized. (more…)

Getting money for Tryon Road and our neighborhood park

At Tuesday night’s budget hearing (6/1/2010), it was standing-room only as many different groups were on hand to get in their budget requests to City Council. Support for the arts was strong and kicked things off. Then the jockeying began at the podium.

I would first like to thank all the folks who attended to show their support. We had a good number of people from South West Citizens Advisory Council (SWCAC) attend and stand during the request to show city council that we really need some attention in South West Raleigh. We can only make things happen in our neighborhoods if we take the initiative to make them happen.

I was very pleased to present the budget requests for the SWCAC and excited that we had so much support from our neighborhoods. SWCAC had a total of eight items that we asked for, two of which stood out and got some heads nodding on city council: (more…)

Neighbors Collaborate to Tackle City Issues

On Monday, December 14, 2009, I lead a design thinking session at the South West Citizens Advisory Council (SWCAC) meeting at Carolina Pines park in Raleigh, NC. Our goal for this meeting? To solve neighborhood problems the open source way. I told the SWCAC Chair, Mary Belle Pate, that I wanted to foster participation, collaboration, and shared benefit to tackle these topics. What I didn’t anticipate was the shared knowledge and community that came out of the hour-long session.
