“The bridge is the linchpin to this whole discussion and the ball’s really in DOTs court right now,” said Eric J. Lamb, PE, Transportation Services Division Manager for the City of Raleigh Public Works Department in an interview with Charlotte Huffman, NBC17. I mentioned this in my previous post on the Tryon Road expansion project:

Learn about plans to extend the 540 turnpike further east to I-40 and US 64/264
The 540/Triangle Expressway turnpike will be open from RTP to the Holly Springs bypass by December 2012. While that project is currently under construction, the NC Turnpike Authority division of NCDOT is reviewing a future southeast extension of that turnpike to US 401 south, I-40 east, US 70 east bypass, and US 64/264 east bypass. If plans and funding come together, portions of the 540/TriExtension turnpike east of Holly Springs could be under construction within five years.

I previously posted about the Tryon Road, Part C project being included in the City of Raleigh’s 10-year Capital Improvement Plan (CIP). But there were lots of questions about what that really means. Is there really money set aside or is it just a placeholder? I did some research and got input from all the players involved in the final phase of the Tryon Road project in South West Raleigh: City of Raleigh, Capital Area Metropolitan Planning Organization (CAMPO), and North Carolina Department of Transportation’s (NCDOT).

On our neighborhood email list, we’ve had lots of discussion about quality of life issues such as noise complaints, parties, fireworks, parking violations etc. Needless to say, people are confused on when to dial 9-1-1 versus the non-emergency number (919) 831-6311. The Pleasant Ridge & Ramsgate Community Watch program has helped educate neighbors about 9-1-1 and sponsored tours of the 9-1-1 center in the past.
I decided to ask Walt Fuller, Deputy Director of Operations for Raleigh-Wake County Emergency Communications Center to help clarify some of the confusion. Our Q&A is below:

I’m sure many people are interested in both the Lake Wheeler Road improvements and the Tryon Road, Part C project. The City of Raleigh recently announced the major road projects that are to be included in their 10-year Capital Improvement Plan (CIP). Both projects made the cut for phase one, which means that funds are being allocated for the projects.
What does that all mean? I’m not sure yet. But I’ve got some research to do, as I’m concerned about the coordination with Tryon Road Part C and the Tryon Road bridge. For now, check out the details for these two projects in our vicinity.

Raleigh, NC – The Pleasant Ridge & Ramsgate Community Watch, building a safe and informed family community, participated in this year’s National Night Out, a unique crime/drug prevention event, on August 3, 2010.. NNO is designed to:
- Heighten crime and drug prevention awareness;
- Generate support for, and participation in, local anti-crime programs;
- Strengthen neighborhood spirit and police-community partnerships; and
- Send a message to criminals letting them know that neighborhoods are organized and fighting back.

One of the big topics that came up during the review of Raleigh’s 2030 Comprehensive Plan was transitions–how one land use transitions to another type. An initial workshop was held in June, but this is an important topic. So big, it’s worthy of another session. See the information below on the next workshop and why you should participate.

The following post was submitted by the Jaguar Club, the Athens Drive athletic boosters.
The stadium facilities at Athens Drive High School have not been upgraded or improved since the school opened over 30 years ago. The parking lot remains unpaved–the restroom and concession areas are small and outdated. Handicap access to the stadium is in dire need of improvement.
